New Work - 蛇上天

I’ve been working on this piece on and off for the past five years, struggling to make progress due to various hurdles and creative blockages. Finally, I managed to complete it recently—though I might make changes if inspiration strikes again.

Initially, I aimed to create a piece that evoked a sense of ancientness and purity: a young monk crossing a dried field, encountering a Buddha-like deity accompanied by a pack of dogs. However, it felt somewhat generic, and I got stuck in the grayscale stage without knowing how to proceed.

Over time, as my worldview changed, so did the concept. The deity transformed into a mechanical alien being, as reflection of the strange time we live in, and the monk is now a duo, their design is the realistic verison of the 大头娃娃 seen in chinese festival celebration, with giant snake emerging from the land as guardians.
